The announcement came from a series of tweets, as well as a blog post detailing the new game, which will be released July 12th on Steam (with the possibility of Switch and other console releases in the future). According to the post, the game is a “sprawling adventure platformer” where you play as a character named Ash – one of the few survivors of the end of the world who’s on a quest to (literally) make a friend.
The aesthetics of the trailer are sure to look familiar to fans of McMillen’s work, as his signature art style is apparent here. Also familiar is the Super Meat Boy-esque platforming – although in his blog post McMillen writes that the game “embodies aspects of basically every game I’ve ever created”. He also claims that it’s “by far, the largest game (level wise) I’ve ever worked on.”
Also in development from McMillen are The Legend of Bum-bo, due in December, and Øuroboros (no release date). Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news on The End is Nigh!
